can't even start apache service

New to mod_rewrite? This is a good place to start.

can't even start apache service

Postby skibo » Thu Nov 11, 2004 12:27 pm

I cannot seem to get mod_rewrite working at all. I'm using Apache 2.0.52. When I insert the "LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so" into the httpd.conf I get an error when trying to start the service, it says it can't find the mod_rewrite.so file.

If I try to just comment that out and go straight into
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond ...
...
stuff it just gives this error "Syntax error on line 973 of /usr/local/apache2/conf/httpd.conf:
Invalid command 'RewriteEngine', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration"

I've recompiled Apache with --enable-module=rewrite --enable-shared=rewrite options. nothing seems to effect the error outputs.

Would a solution be as simple as just finding the mod_rewrite.so file and sticking it in the modules directory? If so where can I find this file to download or whatever.

I've been working on this for a week now, and am getting rather frustrated.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.
