New to mod_rewrite? This is a good place to start.

This is my dinamic url:

categories.php?cid=1

this is my re writen url:

cat1.html

rule:

RewriteRule ^cat([0-9]+)\.html$ categories.php?cid=$1

works fine but the search engines have my old dinamics urls:

oldcats.php?c_cid=1

I want to use an permanent moved code [R=302,L] to move from oldcats.php?c_cid=1 to cat1.html when ever a search engine found the old dinamic link oldcats.php?c_cid=1

Is this possible?


Can I use the %{QUERY_STRING} to get the old c_cid variable value and pass this value to the new url ^cat([0-9]+)\.html$

thanks to your suggestion I have learn that may be I have an miss configuration on my mod rewrite because first I try your code

If that is the case, the problem is you can't redirect to a relative path (not the R=301).

Try

Because you are in a sub directory so the correct path is /mysite/cat51.html so you have to use

No same thing. I also have problems with my mod rewrite if I uncomment this #RewriteBase /

also I have problems with my erros pages

ErrorDocument 400 /400.shtml
ErrorDocument 401 /401.shtml
ErrorDocument 403 /403.shtml
ErrorDocument 404 /404.shtml
ErrorDocument 500 /500.shtml

error page display the same error as the [R=301,L]. The error is always the same "404 Not Found"

Do you know some forum about apache server configuration with mod rewrite on windows?

I install the apache server 2.2.10 on my local computer with php and mysql. I manage to activate the mod rewrite (in general works fine with few exceptions) in adittion I can activate the virtual server but I am not using it right now (the virtual server) due to some issues like problems with error pages (not working) and for example the code you tell me about it dont' work on my apache configuration but works fine on the internet. Sp here is my apache configuration may be you can find the missconfiguration issue;
