serve an image not in the wwwroot

Hello, is it possible to serve an image from below or adjacent to the public_html folder?

like if i have

<img src='dir/picture.jpg'>

can i get mod_rewrite and apache to change it to

Code: Select all

/home/user/otherDir/picture.jpg

and can it be served thusly?
