Masked Redirection to password protected directory

New to mod_rewrite? This is a good place to start.

Masked Redirection to password protected directory

Are there any special precautions to take when redirecting to an external site where the directory is password protected? That is, what mod_rewrite will redirect to an external site's protected directory, thus popping up the authenticate window, AND the client's address bar always remains the URL of your site...

If you redirect to an external site, then the URL in the browser WON'T remain the URL of your own site.

You might be able to get around this using a redirect to a PHP script that uses cURL to pull the information from the other site.
