Map http://something.com:8080/dir/ to http://something.com/

I run a small server with Apache, Zope and Plone. I have a Plone site that has a long, unwieldy URL that I would like to make the root of the server. I have Zope as a separate server on port 8080 with Apache handling normal port 80 duties. I would like to be able to have the Plone site come up when users hit the / (and /index.hmtl too, for the more skilled). I would like to do this in the Apache configuration files rather than in .htaccess files. I tried that and it didn't play along with my Apache configuration. I'm new to mod_rewrite and Apache configuration, as you might guess. Thanks!
