how to mask parameters using mod_rewrite

I have a URL, abc.com?var=1

how can I rewrite it so that

if "http://www.abc.com?var=1" is requested,

the file is returned but the address bar URL is rewritten to read

"http://www.abc.com" (without the parameter list)
