Search engine Friendly url

Postby Webby » Thu Oct 03, 2002 11:27 am

Is it true that htis very forum could have search engine friendly urls with the use of a mod_rewrite?

You see most engines cough and splutter with "?" and "&"222 etc in a url and thereefore dont index posts from the forum. Check out webmasterworld.com for a prime example. they have 7,100 pages indexed in the search engines because theey have flat urls. I would like that kind of exposure but do not know how to rewrite the phpbb urls :-(

any ideas?

It's possible, just take a look at http://www.visualbasicforum.com/, they use mod_rewrite and it looks very nice.
(sorry, read your post too fast, didnt notice that webmasterworld example :-? )

But the problem(or challenge for some :)) is that it needs quite a lot of work. There has been some discussion in phpBB forums about this.
